Angel takes oath of office as Legislature convenes 2009 session

Recently, Jan Angel promised to uphold the constitution of the state of Washington when she took the oath of office as the 26th District’s new representative. The Port Orchard Republican was sworn into office along with other House members during the opening ceremonies of Washington’s 63rd Legislature.

“I’m very excited about this opportunity and ready to get right to work for the people in our district. As a former Kitsap County commissioner, I’m very familiar with many of the local issues that will be under discussion in the Legislature.” said Angel. “I’m looking forward to providing a strong and effective voice at the state Capitol for our local citizens.”

Angel will serve as the new Republican leader of the House Local Government and Housing Committee. She plans to use her extensive experience in county government to seek committee review of the state’s growth management laws.

As a member of the House Higher Education Committee, Angel says she will work toward affordable tuition and expansion of a four-year baccalaureate degree at Olympic College. She has also been appointed to the House Early Learning and Children’s Services Committee.

The new 26th District lawmaker is encouraging citizens to contact her office any time they have questions, comments or suggestions about state government. Angel can be contacted through her office in Olympia at 786-7964 or toll-free at 562-6000. The address is: 420 John L. O’Brien Building, P.O. Box 40600, Olympia, WA 98504-0600.

Her legislative assistant is Debbie Austin, who also was her assistant for the eight years she served as commissioner.
