Frank and Judy Murr, owners of The Window & Door Shoppe, have been servicing the Kitsap area for over 17 years. Starting as a one-person business and operating out of a 25 by 36 garage space, Frank Murr knew what challenges he would face as a new and upcoming business. One of those challenges was trying to sell a high-end product out of a garage, he says.
After working for a window shop on Bainbridge Island for over two years and having been in the building industry his whole life, Murr finally was given the opportunity to open his own business in 1990. Its about taking window problems and finding solutions that make sense, he said. I had good thoughts and feelings on what most people wouldnt try.
Judy Murr, a ferry galley worker at the time, was skeptical at first when she heard of her husbands new adventure, but said it was a natural progression for him. I never envisioned he would build up the business the way he did, she said.
Throughout the years, The Window & Door Shoppe called four other places home before making its permanent home in an 8,000-square-foot building at Kennedy Business Park in Poulsbo. In addition to having a larger work space, the company now operates with 13 employees, including production supervisor Larry Wolske, who has over 20 years of experience in the window and door industry. Its really been fun for the people who have worked for us, because its more like a family, Judy says.
The Window & Door Shoppe specializes in custom windows and doors and is also the only Anderson Excellence Dear and WindowCare® Specialist west of the Tacoma Narrows Bridge. I think our philosophy has always been best product at the best price at superior service, Judy says. Treat business contacts and customers the way you like to be treated.
