SPECIAL REPORT - CONSTRUCTION
New medical complexes
planned for Port Orchard
A Silverdale developer is proposing to build a new medical complex on Tremont Street in Port Orchard, on the property next to Group Health. The JWJ Group is working with the Port Orchard Planning Commission and the city council on a site-specific rezone for the project.

The proposed project includes four buildings. One would be more than 30,000 square feet and have three stories, and the other three would have 10,000 square feet each. The developer has already received some early interest from physicians and dentists, according to project manager Debra Purcell.

Purcell says with existing medical facilities already in place in that corridor, it made sense to provide additional medical buildings and keep health-related services together. The project is likely to be built in phases, but the four buildings would have a unified design. NL Olson & Associates Inc. of Port Orchard is providing engineering, and Bainbridge Island architect Sean Parker is providing architectural design.

The project is close to preliminary approval, and the developer hopes to be able to start construction next spring.

In the meantime, changes are afoot for another Tremont Street medical provider. Harrison Medical Center has plans to sell its current Port Orchard facility, located at the intersection of Tremont and Port Orchard Blvd., and to construct a new building adjacent to it that would house a 24/7 urgent care facility along with other medical facilities and providers.

Harrison representatives could not be reached for comment by press time for additional details.
