Words of Wisdom from the
late Ken Donohue — 1936-2006
(Editor’s Note: Ken Donohue, an Olympia builder, and former president of the Building Industry of Washington, passed away on July 7, after a long battle with lung cancer. He was active in his local, state and national builder’s associations serving as president of the Olympia Master Builders from 1991 to 1993, was BIAW’s “Builder of the Year” in 1995 and its president in 1996. He was elected to the BIAW Hall of Fame in 1999.
I met Ken through his wife June, who owned a real estate brokerage in Thurston County. Both became longtime clients of the publication I owned there in the 1980s. Ken specialized in the construction of affordable housing, building over a thousand homes for young families, and was passionate about the subject. He was a simple man who “walked his talk,” proud to stand up for what he believed in. He also had an anate way of making common sense seem so simple, as this article he wrote some ten years ago attests —especially in today’s turbulant political climate.)
