| Kitsap County periodondists and oral surgeons have a new tool at their disposal, thanks to Advanced Medical Imaging (AMI): SimPlant software, the worlds first interactive, three-dimensional dental implant planning system.
SimPlant is a cutting edge combination of computer tomography (CT) scans and software that creates a realistic, three-dimensional model of a patients jaw to help dentists create and place precise dental implants, and improve the changes of an implants long-term success. In Seattle only a handful of radiology and imaging centers, such as Radia and First Hill Diagnostic Imaging, offer the SimPlant system and AMI is the first to bring the system to the Kitsap Peninsula.
We were approached by a number of periodontists to bring this locally, said Kurt Newcomer, director or AMI.
The SimPlant system was first released in 2000 by Materialise, a European-based, rapid prototyping service bureau and software development firm with multinational subsidiaries. Using a CT scan to obtain data about the patients bone quantity and quality, the SimPlant interactive CT software accurately analyzes the patients anatomy and simulates implant placement and bone augmentation procedures. The end result is a surgical template, either printed on film with a three-dimensional printer or stored digitally, which allows the surgeon to determine the ideal position for the implants and guides the actual implant placement process.
AMI will be hosting a training seminar on May 22, at Harrison Medical Centers Silverdale location so that Kitsap and Olympic Peninsula periodontists, oral surgeons, prosthedontists and general dentists can learn more about this cutting edge treatment planning system. Individuals interested in more information about the seminar, or who would like to register should call (360) 415-6100. |
