| Connie Rose, an investment representative with Edward Jones in Gig Harbor, joined the company in 1995. With an extensive background in employee benefits consulting, she found the financial planning profession a perfect fit.
Rose was attracted to the company due to its focus on the individual investor. At Edward Jones, she works with wealthy clients, people who are starting out, and everyone in between.
Each person is treated individually because no two families objectives are alike, she said. Her services range from wealth generation and protection to investments that have tax advantages and insurance products. The company uses stocks, bonds, mutual funds and other tools, but nothing that would cause the client to gamble with their money.
For Rose, the most attractive part of the job is helping people make smart decisions about their money.
Many clients come to me after trying to do it on their own, she said. But getting advice from acquaintances, magazines and other similar sources is not always the best way. That generic advice isnt right for them a lot of times, and those investments are not succeeding, she said. Its gratifying to help them shift the money into the right investments.
To get clients started, Rose asks them a lot of questions ranging from their family situation to their lifestyles. She uses software to come up with scenarios that take into account elements like inflation. Often times, clients simply need a little more education to succeed.
Rose said one of the best things about her company is that it has not lost its vision. Ted Jones, the son of the companys founder, Edward Jones, introduced an innovative idea by opening a one-person branch in a small Missouri town in 1955. Soon, he extended that idea to other areas, opening up 300 branches during his leadership, and transforming the company.
He had a mission to bring investing to people who didnt have access to it, she said. Teds vision was to have Edward Jones offices in neighborhoods in communities.
The company, which now has about 8,000 branches, continues to open offices in small communities rather than big cities.
Another value appreciated at Edward Jones is community involvement. Rose volunteers her time for various organizations. For the last three years, she has been actively involved with Communities in Schools of Peninsula, a nonprofit organization based on the Key Peninsula that helps children and their families become more successful. CIS-P has a variety of mentoring and other programs in the Peninsula School District, including after-hours reading in elementary schools and math tutoring at a middle school.
The work the organization does helping kids is just like the work we do in my professional life, she said. The one-on-one programs the organization has in the Peninsula School District have been very successful with helping kids with reading and math, and helping families.. |
