New dialysis center planned for Poulsbo

Olympic Peninsula Kidney Centers plans to build a new facility in Poulsbo. The Bremerton-based nonprofit corporation currently operates kidney dialysis centers in Bremerton and Port Orchard. The new 5,000-square-feet facility will better serve North Kitsap residents, who currently have to commute as much as 45 minutes one way, three times a week, for their treatments, said administrator Bob Swartz.

“The population has been shifting away from Bremerton, and population in North Kitsap County has been growing. This will substantially reduce the time they’re commuting,” he said.

The center’s planned opening is in November. The other two facilities will then be renovated to modernize them.

Morss Medical Architecture was recently hired to design and update the facilities. MMA is the Pacific Northwest’s only architecture and interior design firm dedicated to the design of medical facilities. MMA recently completed work on the 56,000-square-foot Salmon Medical Center in Silverdale. The Salmon Medical Center opened to the public in April.
