Melanoma, one type of skin cancer, can be extremely serious-usually fatal if not caught at early stages. Frequently those diagnosed with melanoma are in their 30s or 40s and often may never have recognized changes on their skin. Melanoma treatment to date has not been effective and medical researchers are racing to try and find better understand melanoma and how to treat it.
The 4th Annual Randy G. Johnson Golf Memorial is an opportunity to join in that race. Initiated in memory of Randy, who died in 2001 from melanoma, by his family and friends, the tournament will be held on Sat. May 14 at McCormick Woods Golf Course.
This year organizers hope to raise, with the communitys support, $15,000 to be divided between melanoma research at The Melanoma Research Foundation and at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center. The major Tournament Sponsor is ServiceMaster of Tacoma and Bremerton. Other Major Sponsors include: Rotary of Port Orchard, Marler Clark LLP, Compensation Consultants Inc., Floor Coverings International and KNS Construction.
Entry is $100 and includes, cart, lunch buffet, prizes and range balls. Sponsorships are also being sought at $100, $250, $500 and $1000. Donations of any amount will be accepted and used for melanoma research.
