Melanoma will claim 10,000 lives this year. An Americans lifetime risk of developing melanoma is about one in 75. In October 2001, local resident Randy Johnson died of advanced melanoma. His wife, Coreen Haydock Johnson, who has worked as a director and volunteer for many Kitsap County not-for-profit organizations and volunteer groups decided to make a difference in the area of melanoma by raising funds for this extremely difficult to treat cancer and increasing awareness for its prevention and early detection.
In Randys memory, in conjunction with Melanoma Awareness Month, the 3rd Annual Randy G. Johnson Golf Memorial will be held on Sat. May 15, at McCormick Woods Golf Course in Kitsap County. All proceeds from this charity golf tournament will benefit The Melanoma Research Foundation.

The benefit tournament is open to the public, entry fee is $85 per person, and includes greens fees, a power cart, range balls and plenty of prizes.
