1st Security Bank of Washington:

With 14 branches throughout the greater Puget Sound area this mutual savings bank has branches in Port Angeles and Poulsbo. Full service and federally insured, the bank was previously Washington’s Credit Union. American Marine Bank:
   At this time, Jackie Burgess manages the Poulsbo branch, Mary Hoover the Silverdale branch, Mandy Colburn the Inland Village branch and Jan Sutherland is managing the Winslow Way branch.

Chartered in 1948 by Louis H. Goller, American Marine Bank has two offices on Bainbridge Island and branch offices in Poulsbo, Port Ludlow, Seattle, Silverdale located at 9490 Silverdale Way. Bank of America:
   Operates 10 branches on the Peninsula. Branch locations include Bremerton, Kingston, Gig Harbor, Silverdale, Port Orchard, Bainbridge Island and Poulsbo. Bank of America offers both consumer and commercial banking services including a full line of mortgage and investment products. They also offer Saturday hours at some locations. Columbia Bank:
   With 34 branches in the Puget Sound area, Columbia Bank is headquartered in Tacoma. President and CEO is Melanie Dressel. Frontier Bank:

Kitsap Bank:

Founded in 1908, Kitsap Bank is Kitsap County’s oldest and largest community bank. Headquartered in Port Orchard, it has branches in 26 total locations in six counties. It does business as Kitsap Bank in Kitsap and Mason Counties, and Olympic Bank — a division of Kitsap Bank, in Sequim, Port Angeles, Bonney Lake, Federal Way, and Olympia.

Kitsap Bank has a unique history. A rarity in banking, the company which was originally incorporated under the name Kitsap County Bank on July 23, 1908 (and began operations August 8, 1908), will soon celebrate its 96th anniversary. Sterling Savings:
   Bainbridge Island has the only branch found in Kitsap County of this bank. The branch manager is Shaun Stephenson.    The bank has two full-service branches in Kitsap with the plans to open a branch in Gig Harbor this year, tentatively scheduled for June. Viking Bank:
   Headquartered in Ballard, there are branches in Poulsbo, South Seattle, Fife, South Tacoma, and Bellevue. Helen Ralph, commercial loan officer, specializes in SBA loans and Donna Whitehurst is the retail branch manager.

Washington Federal Savings:
   The second largest independent bank in Washington State, this institution is 87 years old and is headquartered in Seattle. It operates in eight states and has 117 branches, two of which are in Kitsap County – in East Bremerton and Poulsbo. There also is a branch in Sequim. Washington Mutual:
   One of the largest banks in the United States, Washington Mutual was founded in Seattle in 1889 and helped people rebuild after the great Seattle fire. It is a full-service bank and has in recent years expanded its services to include small business accounts for businesses with between one to 25 employees. This includes free checking accounts and lines of credit. It also has subsidiaries providing an array of services ranging from securities brokerage, mutual fund management, underwriting for insurance annuities, to life and property/casualty sales. Wells Fargo Bank:
   Completed its acquisition of Pacific Northwest Bancorp in October 2003 and will complete conversion of former Pacific Northwest Bank locations to Wells Fargo on April 24.

Following the combination of the two companies, Wells Fargo will operate 133 locations in Western and Central Washington – an increase of 155 percent for PNWB customers and 29 percent for Wells Fargo customers.

In Washington, Wells Fargo locations include Bainbridge Island, Bremerton, Gig Harbor and Silverdale. The company employs more than 3,600 team members statewide. In the past seven years, the company has given more than $12 million to support community projects and causes in Washington.

   Just about all of the banks and credit unions represented above have a mortgage lending operation. Major regional and national banks with a mortgage lending presence in the area, but no active local banking branches include Golf Savings Bank, 1st Federal Savings and Loan of Port Angeles, Countrywide Funding, which is owned by the Bank of New York, Chase Manhatten, Peoples Bank and Homestreet Bank.
