Jane Fraser is an insurance agent, specializing in health insurance. Through her firm, Fraser Consulting Services, LLC, she does outreach in person, and acquires new clients by word of mouth and networking. The lady with the English accent is memorable to business owners who have encountered her when she comes calling, leaving her business card behind.
Harsh economic realities in England brought Jane, her husband and their young children to the United States in 1980.
Their two grown sons are still happy living in the Seattle area. Jane and her husband left the constant drone of I-5, with an apartment building going up next door, for the serenity of the Indianola area in North Kitsap in 1999.
This is home now, she says. It is lovely out here, and we were able to get far more house for our money than in the Seattle area.
Janes clients are scattered throughout Kitsap County, plus some in Seattle, Belfair, Shelton and Olympia.
I dont turn down anything, she says of her growing business. She currently single-handedly takes care of 54 group and 30 individual clients.
Shes worked in the insurance business for 17 years, starting as a part-time go-fer, she says, gradually taking on increased responsibility and knowledge. When the company she worked for was taken over by a large corporation, her job was eliminated, but her former boss, whom she considers her mentor and friend, encouraged her to start her own business.
Jane got her license and set up shop in Poulsbo two years ago.
So, from being one in an office of 50 people, shes now a one-person office. Not a 9-to-5 person, Jane is available to clients on their time, whenever that may be.
Her friendliness and her work ethic have made her business successful. Janes is not a cookie-cutter formula. Rather, each clients plan is cosmetically designed, because no one client is like another. It is a huge responsibility to put a new client together with a brand new plan.
One day recently, she was up at 5 a.m. in order to be with a client for a 7 a.m. meeting. After nearly a year of discussions with the business owner, she met with all the employees to explain the health insurance plan and its benefits.
Jane says 90 percent of the insurance companies she deals with are Washington companies. She names KPS, Regence, Premera Blue Cross, Group Health, and several others that she handles.
Jane feels honored to be able to take care of clients that other agents have failed to treat with proper respect and attention.
The lovely part is really getting to know the people, she says. Many clients have become her friends.
Im very lucky to wake up in the morning and look forward to the day, says this lady who loves her job. Jane is involved in three local chambers of commerce, is an active member of a couple of professional organization, and meets weekly with the North Sound Business Network. |
