Local dentists create high-tech fillings

Using a camera, a computer and a milling machine, Dr. Marta Costa and Dr. Miranda Dageenakis, Port Orchard dentists, are preparing and placing natural-looking ceramic fillings for patients in a single office visit.

The new dental components are courtesy of a CAD/CAM (Computer Aided Design/Computer Aided Manufacturing) instrument called CEREC. The instrument allows dentists to repair a damaged tooth using tooth-colored ceramic restorations or “fillings.”

Dentists no longer need to take impressions or create temporaries. And unlike the old procedure where patients make a second visit to insert the restoration, this procedure is done in one visit. The CEREC systems enables Dr. Costa & Dr. Dageenakis to satisfy patients seeking a long-lasting, esthetic alternative to silver or plastic fillings. The CEREC can also create all other single-tooth restorations.

CEREC has over a decade of clinical research and documentation to support the technology. The restorations have been proven precise, safe and effective. Over four million restorations have been performed worldwide.
