Armstrong named Group Health COO

Scott Armstrong has been promoted to executive vice president and chief operating officer of Group Health Cooperative.

As Group Health’s second-in-command under president and CEO Cheryl Scott, Armstrong will oversee the nonprofit’s insurance plan operations, information technology, human resources, and the community provider network, as well as quality assurance for patient care services.

Armstrong came to Group Health in 1986 to serve as assistant hospital administrator at Group Health’s Central Hospital in Seattle. He has since gone on to serve in a variety of capacities, ranging from administrator for hospital-based home care and sub-acute/long-term care services to vice president of Network Services Division and, most recently, as Group Health’s chief administrative officer.

Armstrong has an extensive background in health care — including 15 years of work in hospital administration. He received a bachelor’s degree from Hamilton College in New York and a Master of Arts degree in business with a concentration in hospital administration from the University of Wisconsin – Madison.

Before joining Group Health, Armstrong was the assistant vice president for Hospital Operations at Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton, Ohio.
