“I am a hands-on and self-starter,” she said. “I have worked in the field of development, specifically public relations, business development and fundraising. Building relationships is tantamount to successful development.”

Hails began her job as executive director in June 2002. She is responsible for identifying chamber and community needs and designing a program of work to meet these needs. She constantly evaluates the program. Her duties include ensuring effective organizational structure and procedures, motivating volunteers, managing income and expenditures, maintaining membership, assisting in policy interpretation and preparing statements on public issues, as approved by the board.

Her previous job was executive director for the chamber of commerce in Murphysboro, Ill.

“I increased membership by 30 percent, cut operating expenses by 30 percent and increased office productivity by updating computer support and training,” Hails said. “I worked on the development of downtown revitalization and a five-year tourism plan. The tourism slogan was, ‘Memories are made in Murphysboro’.”

Hails also worked as a telecommunications division director, operations manager and catering manager.

As telecommunications division director, she started a new division of telephone and satellite television systems. The systems served about 1,500 family housing units for 1,800 active naval personnel.

As catering manger, she was familiar with navy and Department of Defense policies and procedures. She was the technical advisor on protocol procedures for all events, including visiting dignitaries from other countries.

She is balancing work life with personal life. “My life is filled with family and friends,” she said. “My husband, Paul, and I share a love of the Northwest. We have four children and four grandchildren. With all that love and support, balancing work and play is a pleasure.”.
