SPECIAL REPORT - EXECUTIVE GIFT GIVING
Giving the gift of original art
By Mallory Jackson

With the winter months upon us and the holiday season in full swing, the comfort of co-workers, friends and family are central to most of us. This Christmas, let your loved ones know how special they really are by giving them the gift of original art.

Be it a brilliantly colored painting to warm a cold winter day, a framed turn-of-the-century family heirloom photo, or a set of blown-glass wind chimes, each in its own way is an expression of your love and appreciation.

One of my favorite haunts is the Sidney Art Gallery (202 Sidney Avenue in Port Orchard). For over 30 years, the gallery has been dedicated to exhibiting local and regional artists ranging from contemporary to traditional fine art.

During the month of December, the Sidney Gallery will feature a wide variety of originals from many of Port Orchard’s leading artists. Among the many will be showcased are Deborah Danielson with her detailed acrylics of whimsical frogs and calico cats; Roy Carr, and his classical oil on canvas seascapes; and Salamander Pottery with their imaginative porcelain bells and ornaments. Holiday art cards, jewelry, stained glass and pottery are also featured.

But the Sidney Gallery isn’t the only place to find original art that will make great gifts this holiday season. Gig Harbor has a thriving arts scene. There is an entire arts district in downtown Bremerton and art abounds in both Poulsbo and Bainbridge Island which both have very active arts communities.

No matter where you find it, the gift of art is always cherished.
