Operating a successful home-based business is the dream of many and Genna Johnson of Genna Graphics knows how to do it. With over 20 years experience in the graphic design industry, her business is continually expanding due to her passion and creativity, which are easily expressed through her work. I love my business, my clients, and my community, Johnson passionately stated when asked her reasons for success.
Being surrounded by the creative arts since childhood both of Johnsons parents were professional artists she first entered the creative field by earning her music degree from the University of Hartford in Connecticut. There, she became a classically trained cellist and went on to obtain 23 years experience in that area. It was at this point in her life that she wanted to pursue other avenues and expand her horizons. Artistry was calling.
She began her graphics design career back east by designing artwork for the back cover of a publication similar to our Little Nickel. Desiring a geographic change, Johnson packed up her family and traveled across country to settle in Kitsap County to be near her parents. Wanting both to be with her family and to operate her own business, she began her graphics design business in her home.
Johnson takes pride in knowing that the majority of her clients are not just clients but friends. Her warm and compassionate personality puts others at ease and provides for a free exchange of ideas. She finds this aspect of her business very rewarding and it helps explain why the majority of her referrals are obtained from word of mouth.
Johnsons creative versatility is demonstrated by her original designs for each client she has no signature style. She feels that originality is important to fit the clients need and desire.
Her passion for Kitsap County is apparent upon discussing issues affecting Bremerton and the local community. She is heavily involved in donating artwork to community events and offering discounts to community venues (such as the Bremerton Symphony and the Admiral Theatre). This in addition to designing various pieces for the Chamber and also subcontracting out her work.
In her spare time (which is little), Johnson enjoys singing and is a former country band singer who used this as an outlet from everyday stresses. She also enjoys gardening and takes pride in seeing the results of her creativeness blossom when combined with Mother Natures work. Another joy in Johnsons life involves her three-year-old grandson, whom she obviously adores.
Of the many character traits exhibited by successful people, a positive mental attitude combined with self-assurance, compassion, passion, and an honest enjoyment of people are essential. These characteristics are obvious when talking with Genna Johnson. Her love of graphic design, helping other people, and commitment to improving plus helping her community are the cornerstone of her success. |
