Are you looking good and feeling great?

Many times in business, people don’t realize what an impact their physical and mental well being have on how they do business and whether their efforts are successful on any given day. Can you answer in the affirmative when you look into the mirror each morning that you are “looking good and feeling great!” Take a few minutes for a serious evaluation of how well you think those with whom you do business perceive you. In many cases, they see what you see.
Crucial to looking and feeling good are several elements that must be addressed before you even head out the door each morning. First, have you rested well? Do you get a good night’s sleep each night? Is your daily hygiene well maintained, including hair and nails? Is your haircut stylish or dated? Have you selected attire that is appropriate and flattering to wear? How do your shoes (always polished) and the jewelry you have selected fit with your image?
Now that we’ve addressed the basics, let’s take a further look at other elements that can help you to feel refreshed as you do your daily business. Often, exercise is lacking and regular exercise routine or sporting activity can help you to be trim and fit. The true benefit to exercise however is in your being healthier overall. Diet also must be part of the equation, so take time to evaluate your diet and make changes as necessary. Discuss both a regular exercise program and your diet with your physician as part of your annual physical (which again will help to insure your physical and mental well being). If feeling stressed, again talk with your physician if necessary, and schedule yourself some “down” time with a good massage therapist on regular basis.
If you still do not like what you see in the mirror, then take an even harder look at other solutions to help you feel great and look good. Great strides have been made in dentistry and many adults now opt for braces later in life. Taking care of your dental needs is critical not only to your appearance but to your health and should include regular checkups and cleaning of your teeth. While we are talking about a key element of your face, also take time to evaluate how refreshed your skin looks. As we age, unfortunately, our skin can be one of the first things to make us appear tired.
Be certain to invest in good skin products and treat yourself to an occasional facial. If bothered by unflattering facial hair, consider waxing or electrolysis as a solution. Laser hair removal by a certified cosmetic surgeon might be a further option. Cosmetic surgeons now offer many options other than invasive procedures that may contribute to your overall well being from an appearance standpoint.
Many of us over time develop “laugh” lines around our eyes and mouths and are bothered by them as they deepen with age. A temporary option to help smooth out these wrinkles might be a botox injection that helps to put more tone in the surrounding facial muscles on a short term basis and lasts for approximately three months.
Microderm abrasion might also be considered as a measure to “super” exfoliate skin tissue. This procedure essentially buffs the skin with a fine silicate glass and leaves the skin more evenly toned and healthy looking. Results are usually good for four to six weeks.
Other options from a cosmetic surgeon might include laser skin resurfacing which lasts longer term and includes ridding the outer layer of skin from the face. The benefits of this process are that it tightens the deeper layers of skin and plumps tissues with a result of “younger” and more refreshed looking skin. Other more permanent procedures for skin care might also include things such as an eyelid lift or a brow and forehead lift.
The reality of looking good and feeling great ultimately rests with each of us and is a cumulative result of our lifestyle. If we have spent too much time in sun, our skin will show it. If someone has been a long-term smoker or carries extra weight, it will show. Over time, the results of how we treat our bodies will show when we look into that mirror each day.
As business people, it’s our responsibility to make educated choices when we seek medical care, dental care, elective procedures or services. We must choose wisely and get the best information available about the risks and benefits of anything we opt to do. We must also have realistic expectations and know that we can only “reset” the clock each day. Are you looking good and feeling great?
