Silverdale Noon Rotary doubles
KMHS contribution with matching funds
The Silverdale Noon Rotary Club has stepped up to meet the challenge grant offered by the M. J. Murdock Charitable Trust in funding renovations and helping to build a family waiting room and other safety enhancements at Kitsap Mental Health Services (KMHS) Adolescent Treatment Unit (ATU).

The club, known locally for sponsoring the “Duck Race” contributed $1,500 that will be matched dollar-for-dollar by the Trust. KMHS Foundation President Ron Rogerson accepted the contribution at a recent Rotary meeting. The project will require more than $800,000 to complete.

The ATU is a ten-bed short-term psychiatric inpatient facility for adolescents, ages 13-17. It provides stabilization, evaluation and treatment services in a secure setting for youth exhibiting severe emotional, mental or behavioral problems.

Earlier this year, the trust granted KMHS a $35,000 cash award and a challenge grant of $65,000 that will match contributions dollar-for-dollar. “A little more than $32,000 of community contributions have already been matched by the Murdock Trust,” commented KMHS Executive Director Larry L. Keller.

The Silverdale Noon Rotary Club joins The East Bremerton, Bremerton, South Kitsap and Silverdale Sunrise Rotary Clubs in sponsoring the project.
