DOC Video — a prescription for getting it on tape
By Marie E. Buckner

L to R – Debbie Baxter and
Stephanie Raupach at the controls.

So, you have an idea that either your firm or yourself thinks would make a great video. Where do you turn? What all is involved? Look no further than our own backyard.

Located within the West Bremerton area is a business which will satisfy your needs and wants to have your events put on tape. DOC Video, operated by two entrepreneurial-minded women, offers a wide variety of services to help companies and individuals fulfill their advertising means.

Having seen a need for their services in Kitsap County, both Debbie Baxter and Stephanie Raupash, put into place their long-time desire of owning their own business and their years of working in the field.

Started in September 2000, DOC Video got its name when the two owners began calling each other doctors of video production. Their studio carries this theme by consisting of rooms labeled ER and OR with their logo consisting of stencil-like letters made in the MASH style. They run the entire gamut from creative ideas to producing the final copy. Upon first meeting with the client, questions are asked such as what is wanted, why it is wanted, and what makes the client so unique? Also of importance is finding out what the target market is, or could be, and what kind of advertising goals does the client have. In this step, DOC obtains all the facts about the desired outcome so it can live by one of its principles — that of never promising what cannot be delivered.

Upon getting these creative ideas, DOC Video creates one to three options on how to fulfill the client’s needs. After running these by the client, options are ‘nailed down’ to the best one before the actual writing of the script begins. This helps the company live by another one of its principles — that of creating a quality product that provides what the customer wants. From then, the producing begins. What shots are needed? What mood is desired? Locations, cameras, lighting, set-ups all come into play in this production segment.

An added benefit to the company is found in their “DOC Video Players,” individuals who are hired and known as “extras.” Having these characters provided by DOC is another added convenience and extra benefit of having them produce your videos.

After deciding all the above items to be involved in one’s video production, the final stage of planning the shoot date, arranging the location, and being tape and camera ready come into play. With a philosophy of “never see something as it is, see it as what can be,” a world-class video will be the result of this very detailed oriented project.

In addition to producing videos, the firm acts as an advertising agency for your video — if you so choose. They will place the commercials in conducive markets to help insure your success. They know their field, and will make suggestions for improvement and have special insights in areas where others do not have the expertise. For instance, they have walked into a client’s office and saw potential for improvement to help the client explore other avenues before unentered or thought of. Both owners have strong gut instincts and integrity and utilize them to their full advantage — a much needed asset.

DOC Video is especially proud of its recent MADD educational video which is in the process of being distributed statewide and nationwide. It has been aired on public television locally through the BKAT — Bremerton Kitsap Access Television — and its 10 minute instructional video (which simulates a mock crash) is shown in schools to help children see the deadly effects of alcohol consumption and driving.

The successful business blends the personalities of the two owners beautifully. Debbie is the quiet, detail oriented one while Stephanie is the “non-figure type” and extrovert. Combine these ingredients with precision, passion, a strong knowledge base of video production, and immense creativity — and you will be glad you are relying on DOC Video for your next, or first, video production.
