| Staples.com has stepped up efforts to sell business services to small companies over the Web, offering debt collection and quick financing services on its site for the first time.
In the next year, Staples.com plans to integrate its own back-end systems more closely with business service providers as the office-supply giant tries to make buying business services at Staples.com as easy as buying pencils, pads and paper clips. Staples.com and rivals Office Depot and OfficeMax.com are jockeying for position as interest in Web services increases. Staples.com began offering such services in March.
Staples.com added instant credit services through LiveCapital and debt collection services via RecoverDebt. Staples.com also struck deals with partners that will sell services similar to some already offered at Staples.com: ebDirect will provide employee benefits, MyCorporation will offer business start-up services and Verizon Online will sell DSL services. The new offerings are available at kiosks in Staples stores as well as through the companys main site. |
