| According to data compiled by the Bureau of National Affairs (BNA), in the first 26 weeks of 2000 all union settlements showed that the weighted average first year increase in newly negotiated contracts was 3.9 percent, compared with 2.7 percent in 1999.
The median first-year gain for settlements reported to date in 2000 was 3.3 percent compared with 3 percent in 1999.
Manufacturing contracts provided a weighted average increase of 3.4 percent, compared with 3.1 percent a year earlier. The median gain was 3 percent, unchanged from last year. The non-manufacturing (excluding construction) industry weighted average increase was 4.1 percent, compared with 2.5 percent a year earlier, and the median was 3 5 percent a year ago. |
