Port Orchard resident Jim Spencer, a vice president in the Tacoma-based insurance firm of Brautrud Middleton passed away on June 18 of a heart attack.

Spencer, a native of the Tri-Cities area, graduated from the University of Idaho majoring in Business administration. He won a gold medal in the Pan American Games for baseball and served in Viet Nam.

He began his career in insurance with United Pacific Insurance and joined the firm of R.S. Hayward in Bremerton in 1974. He became corporate vice president in 1996 and president in 1998 after a merger with Soriano Insurance of Bremerton.

He became a vice president of Brautrud Middleton Insurance after the two firms merged in last year.

Upon He is survived by his wife, Joanne, and a son, Sean.
