Gold Mountain named state’s best in P-I survey
The Olympic Course at Gold Mountain has been named as the state’s best public golf course in a survey of the state’s golf pros conducted by the Seattle Post Intelligencer.

The course outpolled Desert Canyon as the best, but two other local courses were also rated in the Top 5 — Trophy Lake and McCormick Woods were rated numbers three and four respectively.

Olympic at Gold Mountain was also named as one of the nation’s Top 10 new public courses by Golf Magazine when it debuted in 1996.

The course stirred some debate when it came time to pick the signature hole. The 188 yard seventh, the 467 yard eighth and the 621 yard 18th holes were all in the running among the pros surveyed. However club pro Scott Alexander says his personal favorite is the 251 yard, par 3, third hole, which is a downhill shot at a slanted green. Alexander says in his mind it’s also the prettiest hole on the course.
