Kitsap County Commissioner and 26th District legislative candidate Jan Angel will host the media event kicking off Habitat for Humanitys first ever Women Build in Kitsap County. The project designed to teach women construction skills and empower them to build a complete home.
The media kickoff event will be held April 7 at 9 a.m. at Habitats New Hope Development site off of Arsenal Way in West Bremerton. It will be an opportunity to meet Marty Burkhart, the future homeowner, learn more about the Women Build project, hear from major project sponsors, and witness the raising of the first wall of the duplex.
Burkhart is an enthusiastic partner with Habitat, having already completed more than 500 hours of sweat equity volunteer labor which will serve as part of the down payment on her home. She is a disabled grandmother of six who has always dreamed of having a home in which her family could gather. That dream will soon be a reality because of the Habitat program.
Sponsors of the Women Build project are Women Build National Partners, Lowes, the Bank of America Foundation, and numerous individual donors. For information call (360) 479-3853 or visit www.kitsaphabitat.org.
