| The City of Gig Harbor will be undertaking a major construction project to upgrade its wastewater treatment system beginning in early spring. Based on input from residents and business owners in the North Harborview area, the City of Gig Harbor has made the following decision regarding a construction schedule for this project:
The sections from the pump station located at the Bogue Viewing Platform (8803 North Harborview Drive) west to the intersection of North Harborview and Austin Street. Construction will occur at night with nighttime road closure. Detours will be in place during road closure periods and the roadway will be re-opened each day after the nighttime construction shift has been completed. Tentative closure hours will be between 8 p.m. and 8:30 a.m., Sunday through Friday morning.
The final two sections will occur from the intersection of North Harborview Drive/Austin Street to the Wastewater Treatment Plant (4212 Harborview Drive) across from Donkey Creek Park. Construction of these two sections (in front of Donkey Creek Park and from N. Harborview to the treatment plant) will occur during the day, with continuous road closures (24/7) until completed. Detours will be in place to route traffic, with Austin Street becoming the detour while North Harborview is closed and North Harborview becoming the detour while Harborview Drive is closed.
Occasional lane and or road closures will also occur at intermittent times along the project limits as necessary to complete construction. At the completion of the project, a full closure will occur during the day for the final asphalt paving operation.
Project start dates have not yet been determined. The City expects to award the construction contract in the second half of February.
