Tom Kilbane, chairman of the board of directors of the Kitsap Community Foundation, announced that the Foundation is currently accepting grant applications for its 2008 grant cycle. Grants will be made to qualified, non-profit organizations and interested organizations are encouraged to review the grant application criteria and guidelines at www.kitsapfoundation.org.
Since 1999, the Kitsap Community Foundation has awarded nearly $500,000 in grants and scholarships to improve the quality of life in Kitsap County. The Foundation currently administers more than 50 Endowment, Scholarship, and other Funds totaling more than $1.5 million, according to Dorothea Lintz, foundation treasurer and this years grant review committee chairman.
Lintz said that 34 of the Funds will be offering direct grants or pooling their funds to make the grants. She stated that the Review Committee, consisting of volunteers from the community, will consider a variety of proposals that focus on the areas of civic and community improvement, education, social services, recreation, the environment, or youth. Grants will be awarded in amounts ranging from $500 to $2,500. In 2007, twenty-nine grants totaling $67,826.29 were given (with an additional $3,500 in scholarships awarded).
Following Committee review, the grants will be approved by the Board of Directors and awarded at a ceremony to be scheduled in the spring.
Through the Kitsap Community Foundation, individuals are invited to establish a legacy of ongoing financial support for the benefit of our community and its future generations. The Foundation has more than a decades experience in linking community needs with community resources through unrestricted endowments, donor advised funds, field of interest funds, and designated funds.
