| According to promotional materials, the new Costco in Gig Harbor North is scheduled to open on Nov. 2, meeting a previously announced schedule of opening by Thanksgiving.
We are thrilled to be bringing Costcos low warehouse prices to the residents and businesses of Gig Harbor, said Warehouse Manager Wayne Harris. We are very happy to be able to serve our existing and new members at our new location, and we look forward to enhancing Gig Harbors reputation as an ideal place to live and raise a family.
The new Costco location will feature a variety of convenient specialty departments, including a gas station, fresh bakery, fresh meat, fresh produce, service deli, rotisserie chicken, optical department with independent doctor of optometry, 1-hour photo, pharmacy, tire center, hearing aid center, fine wine and food court. Members also can save on such services as travel and auto buying.
Construction on the retail pads dubbed Shops at Harbor Hill, where Costco is the anchor tenant, was still in the early stages in October. Calls to developers regarding the project went unanswered; however, in earlier interviews representatives of former property owner, Olympic Property Group, said the five retail pads were expected to be ready by next spring.
In addition to this newest retail complex, at least one more is in the planning stages in Harbor Hill, a 327-acre mixed-use OPG development that includes Costco, a recently opened YMCA, and future residential and office facilities. Although an official with the Harbor Hill project would not discuss any new retail areas in the works, OPGs Web site lists The Village at Harbor Hills for sale. The Village is a 16-acre Planned Community Development Commercial described as a pedestrian-oriented lifestyle center with a small shop retail environment. According to First Western Properties commercial lease listings, the Village at Harbor Hills is being developed by OPUS Northwest and expected to be built by the fall of 2009. Potential uses include restaurants, buildings with drive-through, small box retail and smaller pads, including a 195,000-square-foot building.
In the meantime, the West Side of Gig Harbor is picking up speed. At the end of October, Borders Books opened in an upscale shopping center called Uptown Gig Harbor, and will be followed shortly by several other stores as well as a state-of-the-art theater.
