Keyport community begins planning study
County staff and Citizens to evaluate community needs
Beginning last month, Kitsap County Department of Community Development (DCD) staff, in conjunction with local citizens began work on a planning study for Keyport, with the goal of preparing a community plan.

Keyport has preliminarily been identified as a possible “Limited Area of More Intensive Rural Development,” or LAMIRD. The designation would recognize Keyport’s identity under the state’s Growth Management Act (GMA) as a rural village with historical boundaries, while preventing urban-type sprawl.

The initial meeting was held on Feb. 13 at the Keyport Bible Church, and included a discussion of the planning process, community and planning background, community boundaries, and future goals. As in the other planning efforts that have taken place in the county, subcommittees will be established to study specific issues and a draft plan will be submitted to the Board of County Commissioners by the end of this year.
