| On March 13, the Kitsap Board of County Commissioners approved a resolution authorizing the Department of Community Development to considered rezone proposals as part of the 10-year review and update to the county Comprehensive Plan. The resolution outlined criteria for request eligibility, which include:
Requests may NOT be within or include the boundaries of:
- Alternative 4 of the Port Orchard/South Kitsap Sub-Area Plan
- The Discussion Areas for the Silverdale Sub-Area Plan
- The Kingston Urban Growth Area
Parcels must be inside or within a quarter of a mile of the Central Kitsap, East Bremerton, West Bremerton, Poulsbo, South Kitsap Industrial Area, Gorst or ULID No. 6 Urban Growth Area boundaries as established on Dec. 31, 2005, excluding the areas described by (a) above.
Requests must include an urban designation or inclusion to/exclusion from an Urban Growth Area boundary.
Deadline for requests must be submitted by 4:30 p.m. on April 10.
A map of eligible areas, the resolution and request form are available on www.mykitsap.org or at the Kitsap County Courthouse in Port Orchard. If the requests meet the above criteria, they will be considered in the creation of any land use alternatives using additional review criteria outlined in the resolution.
The evaluation of accepted requests will occur during the months of April and May and those that are found to meet these review criteria may be included in land use alternatives for the 10-Year Review and Update. These alternatives will be available on the www.mykitsap.org webpage and at alternative workshops on the following dates:
Alternative Workshops
- May 15 NK (Kingston Jr. High School, Commons)
- May 18 CK (KC Fairgrounds, Presidents Hall)
- May 24 SK (Givens Center, Kitsap Room)
All workshops held 6 9 p.m.
Land Use Reclassification Requests that are not found to meet review criteria may not be included in the alternatives but may be reconsidered by the Planning Commission and Board of County Commissioners during a public hearing process in September and October.
