| The Washington State Department of Ecology (DOE) recently awarded a $243,400 Section 319 Nonpoint Source Fund grant, authorized under the federal Clean Water Act, to the Kitsap Home Builders Foundation. The grant is for Low Impact Development Standards Implementation. Section 319 provides federal grant funding to local governments for the improvement and protection of water quality in our state.
The Kitsap Home Builders Foundation, which is affiliated with the Homebuilders Association (HBA), will use part of the money to develop a low impact site development manual, a design guide, and ordinances for Kitsap County. The foundation will use the balance to educate industry professionals and regulators through educational workshops. This project's products will work towards restoring water bodies that do not meet state water-quality standards and preventing healthy waters from being degraded.
