Habitat seeking homeowner mentors
Habitat for Humanity of Kitsap County is seeking volunteers to serve as mentors for future homeowners. The “Family Partners” as they are termed are responsible for guiding and coaching future Habitat homeowners through the Habitat for Humanity building process and for ensuring that sweat equity, home maintenance training, and budget counseling requirements are on track and met before their homes are complete.

Other duties include serving as the primary communications link between Partner Families and Habitat for Humanity, helping families choose house plans, floor colors, and other homeowner options. The time commitment varies depending on which stage of the building process the applicant is in: pre-construction, construction, and post construction.

No experience is necessary; however, helpful qualifications are good listening, empathetic to the unique needs of low income people, and ability to encourage independence. Volunteers need to attend a weekly general volunteer orientation which are held on Wednesday evenings at the Habitat office located in the basement of the First Christian Church, 811 Veneta in Bremerton, at 6:30 p.m. Additional specialized training for Family Partners/Mentors is also available.
