Superior Court Judge John Bridges recently announced the contested 2004 gubernatorial election case will go to trial May 23 and end within two weeks. This allows nine business days for the trial given the Memorial Day weekend.
The controversal governors contest saw Dino Rossi win two machine counts before Gregoire prevailed over Rossi by 129 votes after a third, highly questionable, hand recount of Washingtons nearly 2.9 million ballots. Republicans filed the lawsuit seeking to overturn the results, charging numerous voter irregularities. They hope to win a new election.
