Cutler Anderson Architects of Bainbridge Island has received its ninth Honor Award from the Seattle Chapter of the American Institute of Architects.
The Reeve Residence on Lopez Island earned one of only four such awards handed out at the 51st annual AIA Seattle Honor Awards for Architecture gala at Benaroya Hall in Seattle.
The house nestles into a cliff face and has a sod roof pitched at the wind shear angle of the adjacent weathered trees. This allows it to blend into the shape of the land.
The residence was chosen as a 2002 Record House by Architectural Record Magazine last April and also won an Honor Award in the Wood Design Awards competition.
Janet Longenecker served as the project architect, working with Julie Cripe. Spud Grimes of Russet Construction general contracted the project. Other consultants include Tony Rodhiger, stone mason, and Coffman Engineers, Ecotope Energy, Susan Okamoto, to design and install the interiors. |
