The Literacy Council of Kitsap recently sponsored an evening with Tony Ventrella, news anchor for KCPQ Channel 13 and former sports anchor at KING and KIRO TV, at Bremertons Admiral Theatre.
Ventrella is the author of Smile in the Mirror: Let Your Light Shine, an entertaining series of essays about people who have mastered the art of getting the most out of life.
Money raised at the event went to the Literacy Council of Kitsap.
The program included appearances by Bremerton Mayor Cary Bozeman and Paul Drzewiecki, executive director of the Literacy Council.
Ventrella is a member of the Senior Services Board of Trustees and is active in the Boys and Girls Clubs and the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. He also spends a lot of time following local high school sports events.
The most fun I had last year was covering the state cross country meet in Pasco, he said. The quest to do their best was the only driving force on the race course that day. No money, no fame, no gold chains; just young people trying to do their best. That ís the kind of stuff I like to cover.
