J. Lennox Scott, president and third-generation owner of John L. Scott Real Estate, was recently appointed to the executive committee of the National Association of Realtors® (NAR®) by NAR president, Martin Edwards.
He was officially named at the 2001 NAR convention held recently in Chicago. The one year appointment was effective Jan. 1. The NAR is Americas largest real estate trade association with more than 760,000 members across the nation.
The committees purpose is to conduct the affairs of the Association in accordance with the policies and instructions of the board of directors and to recommend new policies, changes in policy, or rescission of existing policies. A total of 45 members sit on the executive committee, all of which are elected, with the exception of six presidential appointees.
Scott is President of John L. Scott Real Estate, which has 107 offices and over 2,800 sales associates in three states. The firm has six offices in Kitsap County.
He is the third generation to run the family business, which was founded in 1931 by his grandfather, John L. Scott. He started in the real estate industry in 1976 at the age of 23 and became president in 1980. In 2000, he was recognized by Realtor Magazine as one of the Nations Top 25 Most Influential People in Real Estate. He was also honored in 2001 as one of the Top 5 Most Admired Individuals in Real Estate in the nation, by REAL Trends. Both honors were attributed to his forward-thinking approach to and use of technology in real estate.
Edwards stated he chose Scott for the appointment because, First he is a great entrepreneur who strikes me as being extremely knowledgeable in the business end of real estate. With this business knowledge, he recognizes the importance of the real estate profession to our nations economy. I look forward to his involvement in helping to form and guide the Associations business agenda, said Edwards.
Im honored to be a part of the NAR Executive Committee, said Scott. He added that he is extremely proud of the NAR and everything they do as an organization. Most recently, NAR created the Realtor® Housing Relief Fund, to raise money for housing costs for the victims of the Sept. 11 attacks. To date the fund has raised over 8.1 million dollars, of which over 7 million has already been disbursed. |
