| Kitsap Citizens For Responsible Planning is the new name for the Kitsap Citizens for Rural Preservation, Both names use the abbreviation KCRP. Kitsap Citizens for Rural Preservation was instrumental in challenging the countys original Comprehensive Plan which is mandated by the states Growth Management Act.
Although a plan that was thought to pass muster with the states Growth Hearings Board was set for review, it was pulled back by newly elected Commissioners Chris Endresen and Charlotte Garrido with the support of then sitting Commissioner Phil Best. KCRP supported both Endresen and Garrido heavily during their election campaigns as well as current Commissioner Tim Botkin. It was almost two years before a much more restrictive plan was submitted. In the meantime, the countys economy has suffered immeasurably and has still not recovered to the point it was at before the 1996 election.
A letter sent to the county commissioners and signed by Charlie Burrow, Vivian Hiatt-Bock, Beth Wilson, Nobi Kawasaki, Judy Matchett, Sarah Adams, Linda Cazin, and Tom Donnelly announced the name change and outlined a vision of what it termed responsible planning.
Those include supporting what has been termed Smart Growth and what developers see as a highly regressive impact fee ordinance. The group says it is, pleased with the progress to date.. |
