Alderbrook Resort changes hands

After months of rumors that the Alderbrook Resort was on the block, the Hood Canal landmark is now under new ownership. North Forty Lodging, L.L.C., a Puget Sound area company which specializes in the investment in and ownership of hotels, closed on the property in early December.

MTM Management, L.L.C. will manage Alderbrook and work with North Forty Lodging to reposition the property to standards similar to other independently-owned, full-service luxury lodging establishments it’s involved with in the Northwest, including the Freestone Inn in Mazama, Semiahmoo Resort in Blaine, the Sorrento Hotel in Seattle, the Willows Lodge in Woodinville and The Woodmark Hotel in Kirkland.

CRISTA Ministries, which bought Alderbrook in 1998, not only sold the resort, but cashed out its entire investment in Mason County, selling Alderbrook Golf Club to the surrounding community home owner’s association, and the water company to Mason County Public Utilities District 1 (PUD 1).

CRISTA Ministries is a Christian, multi-service non-profit organization assisting people through a variety of resources including schools, retirement centers, radio stations, and world relief and development. It operates the CRISTA Shores assisted living facility on Dyes Inlet in Silverdale as well as Miracle Ranch in Port Orchard and Kings West School in Bremerton.

Originally opened in 1913, Alderbrook Resort is a 78-room hotel, restaurant and marina complex on the south shore of the Hood Canal. It offers hotel accommodations, cottages, golf, a marina, an indoor pool, a restaurant, lounge and approximately 10,000 square feet of conference and meeting space. Owned by CRISTA Ministries since 1998, Alderbrook Inn

The main building was constructed in 1979. CRISTA reportedly invested several million dollars in improvements to the property, including upgrading and refurnishing all the rooms, but North Forty has plans for a much larger renovation.

“The south shore of Hood Canal is one of the most scenic and unique places in the Pacific Northwest,” said Brian McGinnis, who is in charge of the project for North Forty Lodging. “We are very excited about this acquisition. Our plan is for a significant redevelopment of the property to commence in the fall of 2002. Our goal is to create a destination resort that rivals any in the Northwest. In the meantime, the resort is fully operational and we are eager to host groups and individuals who want to take advantage of what Alderbrook has to offer.”.
