| Ryan Brown, son of Homebuilders Association of Kitsap County (HBA) president Mike Brown and his wife Jeanne Renee Brown, was injured in a snowboarding accident in January. The tragic accident shattered one of his vertebra and fractured another.
Doctors replaced his fifth vertebra with bone reconstructed from his hip and used a metal plate to fuse vertebrae four, five and six together. His spinal cord was badly bruised but, thankfully, not torn or severed. Despite a collapsed lung during surgery Ryan came through the surgery well, and now is sitting in a wheelchair several hours a day. Physical therapy has begun, and all are hopeful for a successful recovery.
Although the Browns are insured, their medical coverage will pay only $30,000 annually toward Ryan Browns $45,000-per-month rehabilitation costs. The Ryan Brown Trust has been established to assist Ryan through his rehabilitation and recovery.
The HBA invites everyone to attend a dinner and auction to be held on April 27 at Kitsap Golf and Country Club to raise money for the trust. Tickets are available from Bob and Christie Mathwig, (360) 479-4137; Maggie Brewton-Hight, (360) 692-6880; John Armstrong, (360) 373-5061; Kerry Chamberlin, (360) 509-4626; or the HBA.
