Land use group changes name
The Kitsap Waterfront & Streamside Owners Association, a recently organized group of local waterfront property owners has changed its name to the Kitsap Alliance of Property Owners.

“Originally we intended to limit the membership of our group to waterfront property owners in Kitsap County”, explained Jean Sherrard, President of the group. “We’ve had many inquiries from non waterfront property owners who are worried about plans the County Commissioners have to regulate all property under the guise of stormwater and watershed planning. As we follow the plans the county is working on it is quite obvious that every square foot of private property will be highly regulated. We feel as though these regulations will affect all property just as severely as shoreline regulations will affect waterfront property.”

Sherrard went on to say, “Property owners who want to build a garage, barn or anything the county interprets as ‘impervious surface’ will be in for quite a surprise. Building regulations on land in rural areas is purposely being made difficult and expensive. Redevelopment – meaning rebuilding after loss by fire or other catastrophe, enlarging an existing home, replacing manufactured homes with stick-built homes – will suffer the same fate. As ridiculous as this may seem the county is also planning to dictate the kind of vegetation one may grow on their property.”
