| Just in time for Christmas shopping, Kitsap Mall has opened Periscope Place, a play area for children which is located at the north end of the mall.
The play has an undersea theme with a large submarine as the focal point. Kids will be able to climb in a boat, sit on top of a treasure chest, go through tunnels and have fun on the other soft play elements.
Three year old Spencer Shifrin, whose grandmother Bettye Gluth works at the Naval Undersea Warfare Engineering Station at Keyport, chose the name. We had a difficult time choosing the perfect names, commented Stacy Ames, the malls marketing director. We wanted a name to describe the play area that was original, so we put it out to over 1,200 kids in our Kids Club and asked them to come up with a name.
Spencer got his inspiration for the name from the several marine exhibits he has visited at Keyport according to his parents, Jennifer and Howard Shifrin. |
