| The states largest home builder, Bellevue-based Quadrant Homes, hopes the companys early participation in the environmentally-conscious Built Green program will encourage other local builders to follow suit. The program is based on the Homebuilders Association of Kitsap Countys award-winning Build a Better Kitsap program.
The Master Builders Association of King and Snohomish Counties launched the program last month. Its aimed at educating home buyers about their options to buy energy-efficient and nature-friendly homes.
Quadrant Homes, a division of Quadrant Corp., was the first Eastside home builder to sign up for the optional program, along with Seattle-based builders Specialized Homes LLC and Simpson Housing LP.
The Built Green program consists of a checklist of dozens of things builders can do to reduce waste and preserve the natural habitat, including recycling building materials, landscaping with native plants and installing energy-efficient appliances. |
