State grants awarded to
build livable communities
   The Washington State Office of Community Development (OCD) recently awarded growth management grants to municipalities in Kitsap County:

• City f Bainbridge Island, $357000 to create a comprehensive non-motorized transportation system plan.

• City of Bremerton, $50,000 to evaluate the Westpark Neighborhood and Central Business District to determine what steps should be taken to rehabilitate, enhance, redevelop, and better accommodate the projected growth allocated to the city.

• Kitsap Regional Coordinating Council $49,300 to complete a revenue sharing agreement’, specific to annexations and major land use action within the urban growth areas among Kitsap Regional Coordinating Council member jurisdictions, and to identify infrastructure development policies for Kitsap County’s commercial/industrial lands.

Thirty nine local governments from throughout the state received grants. OCD is awarding about $1.1 million this year for Growth Management Act (GMA) projects. The six categories for the grants include GMA compliance, critical areas, rural communities, urban livability, economic opportunities, and conservation. Grants for a seventh category, special projects, will be awarded in September.
