The 2000 Parade of Homes, held June 3 and 4 was an unqualified success according to officials of the Kitsap County Homebuilders Association (HBA). The HBA sponsors the annual event which allows it members to showcase their craftsmanship as well as the newest innovations and trends in the building industry.

This year's Parade featured 24 new homes and two remodeled ones. Of the 26 homes entered, 14 were constructed under the Build A Better Kitsap (BBK) program, the HBA's award winning environmentally-friendly building program. The BBK program has been used a model nationwide for successful "green building" programs.

"This is an exciting event. It provides the opportunity for those looking to build, considering buying a new home, remodeling their home or just dream-building to visit homes built or remodeled by our communities top builders and remodelers," said HBA president Doug Woodside. Woodside won the Best of Show two years ago with one of the first BBK homes constructed under the program.

Judges for this year's Parade were: Paul Abenroth, a builder from Walla Walla; Al Williams a professional lender from Seattle; and Graham Young a real estate broker from Tacoma. The judges toured each the new homes and made their choices for each of the six price categories, special awards and best in show.

The awards were presented at the annual Parade of Home Award Banquet, held at the CWO Club on Bangor, Friday evening, June 16.

Awards categories were based on prices, with special awards given for BBK environmental achievement, best hospitality and outstanding craftsmanship.
