Poulsbo adopts adult entertainment ordinance
Last month, the Poulsbo City Council adopted amendments to the Poulsbo Zoning Ordinance that regulates adult entertainment facilities.

A moratorium on adult businesses had been put in place by City Council in 1998 while the council studied where these types of businesses should be located.

It’s the City’s policy to have separation buffers between adult entertainment uses and residential, parks, schools and religious institutions, which left two zoning districts — light industrial and commercial — where those businesses could be located.

There were four separation buffers presented to the council which were selected to present the largest buffer options while still complying with the most recent court decisions. The council approved amendments to allow for adult entertainment facilities in the Light Industrial zoning district with a 100’ separation buffer — the most restrictive alternative presented.

The City is in the process of drafting a licensing ordinance — together with the new zoning amendments, to regulate adult entertainment as tightly as the law allows.
