WAMU buys PNC Mortgage
Seattle-based Washington Mutual will acquire the stock of Pittsburgh, Penn.-based PNC Mortgage Corp. and PNC Mortgage Securities Corp. for $605 million in cash, PNC has announced.

PNC, which announced plans to explore a potential sale in July, citing the significant capital investments that would be needed to meet the accelerating requirements of the business, said the transaction will result in an after-tax gain of about $250 million.
