The City of Bremerton and the promoters of a proposed ice arena came to an agreement recently to locate the facility in East Bremerton. Greg Meakin of Bremerton Ice Arena, Inc. originally proposed the project to Kitsap County last year with a location adjacent to the Fairgrounds in Central Kitsap. But objections from neighbors coupled with environmental concerns at the proposed site, nixed the deal.

Meakin approached the City of Bremerton with the project, which is being financed by Chuck and Joanne Haselwood, and an agreement was quickly reached.

The 39,565 sq. ft. steel frame facility includes a 85 X 200 foot NHL-size hockey rink and utilizes green building principles. It is energy efficient and includes the use of many recycled and renewable resources.

The project is being designed by Miles Yanick & Co.
