New membership that covers ground and air emergency costs statewide

ApolloMT, a membership program for emergency medical transportation in Alaska, just announced a program available to all residents of Washington. ApolloMT is a fully licensed insurance brokerage, with a plan to help everyone during this time of economic uncertainty and health care insurance instability. Most people don’t know what their cost would be if they had to be transported to the hospital by air or ground, but those who have experienced it know firsthand the copays, balance and total bill, and how unsettling it is to any household’s finances.

Dr. Eric Stirling, the company founder and co-owner, has “seen too many large balance bills assigned to patients over his 30 years of hospital care, and 10 years as previous owner and operator of Alaska’s largest medevac provider.” The answer to this was to start a membership for a nominal fee that ensures a safety net for all residents, no matter what their health status is. With just under 10,000 members in Alaska, this program is now being introduced in Washington and 10 more states. Members can have peace of mind that if the unthinkable should happen, they won’t get a steady stream of bills. “Some members have had multiple transports to the hospital in a year, yet they are all covered by one membership.” Say for example, you live in Kingston or Port Orchard and have a medical emergency. If you are a member of Apollo, the bills will be covered, and it can potentially save you hundreds or even many thousands of dollars. Stirling asserts, “Washington State Department of EMS states that there are over 300,000 ground ambulance transports a year. That equals one per every 21 people in this state. There are 11,000 air medevacs in one year. So then, what are the costs? An ambulance ride costs $700-1200 for a 10 mile ride. Air transport costs $8,000 - $20,000. Most insurances do not pay full on these prices. When an emergency strikes, the last thing one wants to worry about is cost. “Airlift Northwest has a membership, but it covers just air on Airlift, not ground. ApolloMT does cover patients flown on Airlift.

Emergency medical transportation is expensive and often times undercompensated by standard health insurance plans. This leaves patients faced with large bills on top of other health care fees. Apollo MT offers a simple, fully insured membership for any household, for one year, at just $100. Apollo MT covers any person regardless of pre-existing illness, insurance status, or age. Coverage is active 3 days after sign up, and has been approved by the Washington State Insurance Commissioner.
