Greater Kingston Kiwanis offering scholarships

The Greater Kingston Kiwanis Foundation is offering two $2,500 scholarships to graduating high school seniors. Candidate must have demonstrated significant community service activities that highlight positive character, citizenship, and self-reliance. The scholarships are dedicated to the memories of two founding members of the Greater Kingston Kiwanis Club, Robert “Bud” Meredith and Sylvester “Cy” Wyse. The scholarship applicant must live in the North Kitsap areas of Kingston, Hansville, Eglon, Indianola or Suquamish and be a U.S. citizen.

“We want to reward deserving students who have made contributing to our community a priority,” stated Foundation Director, Dave Wetter. “The emphasis in awarding scholarships will be on the applicant’s volunteer and community service record coupled with their one-page personal goal statement. This statement describes them and includes comments on their educational and career goals, and how they hope to serve their community and society in the future.”

Completed application packages must be received by April 1, 2010. Students can obtain an application package from a counselor at Kingston High School, North Kitsap High School, Spectrum School, Crosspoint Academy or West Sound Academy. They can also mail their request for an application package to:

Greater Kingston Kiwanis Foundation Scholarship
P.O. Box 830
Kingston, WA. 98346-0830

Following review of received application packets, the Foundation board will schedule interviews with qualified applicants and scholarship awards will be announced by April 31, 2010. The award will be applied toward the recipient’s tuition and fees upon enrollment at an accredited college, junior or community college, or technical/vocational institution.
