LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Bridge Tolls
I was floored by the letter from Terry Weiss complaining about getting a $49 ticket for blowing past the toll plaza at the new Narrows bridge.

It’s hard to believe anyone could “miss” the toll plaza or not realize there was a toll to be paid. When you drive south from Port Townsend on Highway 3 there are signs, extraordinarily large and brightly colored signs, which begin appearing in Gorst to warn that you must stop and pay a toll ahead. When you get near it, the toll plaza is large and well-lit day or night. Exit lanes to the plaza are boldly and repeatedly marked well in advance.Drivers who “miss” the toll plaza don’t get citations for inattentive driving; it’s assumed they were paying attention and chose to ignore the road instructions. I’ll bet the fine for inattentive driving is more than $49.
