| I am opposed to the passenger only ferry (POF) tax proposal that we will be voting on this month. Here are my top three reasons:
Until the price of homes in Kitsap equal those in King County, Seattle people will move to Kitsap County where they can get more home for their money than they can in Seattle. We will be inundated by growth: more schools to build, more traffic congestion, higher property taxes, and urban sprawl ruining the rural character of Kitsap. Dick Hayes has said that he predicts Bellevue-like growth. If we wanted to live in Bellevue, we would have moved there!
I witnessed a Kitsap Transit leader state at an official meeting they are conducting a stealth campaign. It will happen so fast that the opposition wont have time to organize. This is not the way to conduct a public debate. It is simply not fair or reasoned.
The POF tax will be unlimited once it passes, it will never expire, not matter what the need or condition of the POF program. We are stuck with it forever. Even schools dont get such a sweetheart deal.
I will vote NO on the POF tax.
